Introduction Class Week 1 Empty Introduction Class Week 1

Post by Professor Lockheart Mon Aug 01, 2011 4:28 pm

As students file in I remain at my desk and watch as all the little eyes gaze at me in awe and wonder at our lesson.
"I will start with basic questions and give you a spell to practice for the week. We will review next week and I'll examine how far you have gotten with the current spell and help those that need it." I pass out feathers to help those get started with practice and sit back to watch and wait.

Questions:

1: If you were to cast a spell that changes the color of an object, is it a charm or a transfiguration?

2: Charms are the weakest branch of magic, true or false?

3: If a spell is not a transfiguration spell there is a good chance that it is a charm. True or False?

4: In some ways, Charms and Curses are opposites? True or False?

5: An example of a charm is a spell that turns a cat into a lion? True or False?

Spell to Practice: Levitation Charm "Wingardium Leviosa"

(OOC: PM me with answers and whoever answers first and correct earns points for their house, make it reasonable for your characters' skill in charms. May still post in this thread.)

I sat in the classroom with my head down, charms had never really sparked my interest. All the students were already practicing the levitation spell that Professor Lockheart had asked us to do. I had answered the questions easily and was just waiting for class to be over.

I take my feather and focus intently, wand in my hand.
"Wingardium Leviosa," I say, swishing, then flicking the wand. The feather trembles a tad, then slowly begins to rise. "Yes!" Seems magic won't be so hard for me after all.

"Very nice Ms Aera, five points for Ravenclaw," I complimented smiling at the excited first year. The others seemed to be getting the hang of the levitation spell. I noticed a Slytherin boy just sitting there and walked over. "Too good to practice a simple spell," I asked raising an eyebrow. He looked up at me and shrugged.

Professor Lockheart had come over and was asking me about my laziness in his class. It wasn't that I didn't want to practice this spell but that I HAD practiced it so much. Being from a family of Aurors you tend to be taught the first year spells or at least given tips about them.
"Well sir, it's not that I'm too good," I began as he looked intrigued. "It's just, Wingardium Leviosa," I said with a swish and a flick. His hat started to levitate off of his head a little until I broke the charm. "My brothers and sisters thought it would be good to give me a few extracurricular lessons." I said with a smirk.

I fixed my hat and looked down at him. "Well next time just practice it a few times to let me know you're ready to move on," I said while poking him in the forehead. "Ten points to Slytherin," I said as I started moving along the other students helping those who needed any help. A bit arrogant but I like him. He shares his brother's attitude at least. I thought.

I heard one of the Hufflepuff first years chanting the spell name as she tried inexhaustibly to get her feather to float. As I started to walk over, he feather burst into flames and only the ashes remained on her desk.
"Huh, you're a very hard worker," I said gently patting the girl's head.
"What happened?" she asked.
"Well Ms Smith, if I had to say a reason I would think that you tried to hard. Spells have an interesting way of combining with emotion. The more stress and anger you put into a spell the more chaotic and destructive it is." I replaced her feather and smiled. "If you want to try again, take your time. Relax, breathe, you may not get it the first few times but practice makes perfect. Take you time and don't rush."

I ran into the class of course the last one again, but this one was the one I was the most excited about.
I take out my wand and point it at the feather.
"Wingardium Leviosa" I say and to my surprise the feather begins to float in the air. I feel that this may be one of my favorite classes..

I sigh as I try to get the feather to rise. "Wingardium Leviosa," I mutter, but the feather doesn't rise. I look over at Anyla, who is levitating hers rather high now. "An, could you help me?" I ask. She sighs and turns towards me.
"First off, make sure you do the wand movements correctly. Second, pronounce the spell correctly. It's simple."
I frown. "You're in a bad mood," I say.
"You just ask me for help every class. And you're calling me An. I don't like An. Please don't call me that," she says sternly.
"Sorry," I say ducking my head.

I chuckle a bit looking over at Anyla who is, yet again, being asked for aid on the assignment by Trylin. Can't he do anything for himself? He's not going to impress Anyla too well if he can't cast a simple spell, I thought. He seemed so arrogant before and I just wasn't sure how he was going to hold onto that anymore. Maybe I should try and help him. I know Anyla would be relieved if I could work things out with him. The idea wasn't too bad but it would have a one in a million chance of working. I hadn't done anything to him and he had hated me. I definitely didn't like him but I was willing to do a lot for Anyla.

I sigh as Trylin finally gets the spell. "Great. Now please, leave me be. I'm not in the best mood right now,"I explain, hoping I don't sound too mean.
"Yeah, sure... Sorry..."
I turn back towards my things, and since I've already finished the assignment, I decide to rest my head on the table.
Goodness... That boy needs to just leave me be... I've had it with him...

As my feather decided to float across the room for some reason I decided to go and pick it up. Unfortunately along the way I accidentally bumped into Anyla's desk pretty badly causing her resting to end quickly. I jumped back mortified that I had caused her more trouble, as if she didn't have enough already.
"I'm so sorry Anyla," I whimpered
"It's alright, just try to be more careful next time," Anyla said tiredly.

Then Kain started walking over...oh no look at the trouble I've caused

I noticed that one of the Reavenclaw's feathers were floating away from him. I kind of chuckled a bit until he ran into Anyla pretty hard. I thought about walking over but I wasn't sure how Trylin would react, that is I was thinking one thing while my body had already reacted. I was up out of my chair and walking over already before I knew it. The boy looked mortified but Anyla didn't seem to mind what happened.
"You alright?" I asked Anyla.
"Yeah nothing to worry about," she said throwing me a smile.
"I'm terribly sorry, I didn't mean to do it," said the Ravenclaw boy in what sounded like nervousness, anxiousness, and fear all wrapped in one big mess.
"What are you going to do, hex him?" Trylin chimed in. Anyla shot him a glare and turned to me with an apologetic expression. Meanwhile the boy looked horrfied that I may actually do something.
"Nah, Anyla is alright and he doesn't seem to be hurt. Besides he apologized and seems extremely sorry, why cause any more trouble." As I spoke relief seem to flood the Ravenclaw and Trylin just looked even more frustrated.

I laugh at Trylin's angry expression, though quietly so he doesn't hear. "He gets so upset," I mutter to myself.
I look up at the other boy. "Don't worry about it. I'm fine. I'm not upset either. It's okay."
He looks even more relieved. "Okay. Good. Sorry again." He grabs his feather and turns away.
"I'm shocked you let him get away with hitting your girlfriend like that," Trylin laughs bitterly.
I turn completely red instantly. "He's not- We're not- I mean-" I stutter looking at the ground.

I must admit he did catch me a little off guard, Did he really just say that. I didn't know what to think, I never thought he would say something like that. I thought he DIDN'T want us around each other but saying that would mean we WOULD be seeing each other.
"I haven't asked her out yet so you can't really call her my girlfriend," I said regaining my composure. I saw Anyla turn a shade of red I didn't think was possible but my plan worked. I knew Trylin was trying to get me to say something like 'what do you mean girlfriend?' or something that would hurt her but I said I hadn't asked her yet.
"Yet?" I could barely hear Anyla muttering.
"And how long would that last? A week, maybe more? Don't Slytherins stick to their house?" I knew Trylin was saying this stuff just to get Anyla to doubt me and to ruin my reputation. I could tell he was also trying to come up with other things to say.

I sigh and look down. I know Trylin's just trying to make me hate Kain, but I really wish he hadn't said that... I decide to just not look up and not speak for awhile. And what did Kain mean by that? Was he just doing it to upset Trylin more? Or something like that? I feel like screaming and leaving the room, but as that would probably get me into trouble, which I really didn't need...
I put my head on the table and just listen to Kain and Trylin argue a bit.

This was the exact reason I had let him sit by her, I couldn't let the tension between me and Trylin stress her out but it was too late. She laid her head down and I knew this wasn't what she wanted right now. Too late I should just leave her alone for the time being, maybe just let her be for a while....
"Think what you want Trylin, not all Slytherin's are snakes in the grass. I don't care if you hate me just because of my house or my family, just stop involving Anyla. Now if you'll excuse me," I turned to walk away. I'm getting Anyla involved in things other than what my father had warned me, I'm a fool for thinking this wouldn't happen.
"So what, you're tired of defending her? Some friend who are, walking away after saying something like that!" Trylin was angry, maybe he saw that me and Anyla were closer then he had thought. Maybe it pissed him off knowing that I did like her. I was done causing her trouble though.
"I'll talk to you another time Anyla," I added walking away from the confrontation.

I sigh as Kain leaves. Why can't Trylin be the one to leave??? I don't even like the kid... I glare at Trylin as he watches Kain leave, and when he turns back he looks surprised. "What's wrong?" he asks.
"What do you think is wrong?"
He pauses. "Look, I'm just trying to protect you, that's all. He's no good. He's a Slytherin."
"Well from what I've seen, the Gryffindors seem to be living up to the Slytherin's reputation more than the Slytherins themselves actually are! You and Kylar have done nothing but be mean to Kain and I'm sure many other Slytherin. Maybe I actually like the kid, and want him to be my friend. That doesn't concern you, and I don't need your protection." I turn away and lay my head back down, trying to calm down. Thank goodness class is almost over...

I look over at all the commotion that I've caused and feel pretty bad. Thankfully, Anyla wasn't too angry but now she looks mad. It seems that Trylin is just trying to cause trouble, and after giving Kain the idea of hexing me (though I was pretty sure Kain wouldn't) I'm not too happy with him. I decide to take action though hoping it wouldn't cause more trouble. I just couldn't let Trylin annoy a fellow Ravenclaw and a Slytherin. "Trylin will you just leave Anyla and Kain alone?" I say.

I listened to what both Anyla and the Ravenclaw boy said as I walked. Although I couldn't make out entirely what the boy said, by that time I was almost out of ear shot. It felt really nice knowing that others would stand up for me despite my house and what had happened with my family.

I smile as Cayden asks Trylin to leave us be. Kind of you, but that boy's too hard headed... He won't change his mind and won't leave us be, I think. I look over and see Kain smiling a bit, probably thinking about the same thing.
"I can do whatever I want, don't try and tell me what to do!" Trylin exclaims, his face contorted with rage.
"Trylin, calm down. Don't get all mad at him, he's just trying to help," I say calmly.
"He's interfering with stuff that's not his business," Trylin says.
"He just sees that there's a problem and he wants it to stop. He's not doing anything wrong."

As I'm standing next to Anyla I noticed Trylin is slowly taking out his wand.
I decide that I'm going to match his motions and pull out my wand too.
Then he does something unexpected.
"Flipendo" he yells and a spell comes flying at me. Thankfully out of his rage and bad aim I dodge it.
"Wingardium Leviosa" I mumble and a book begins to float in the air. I knew I'd love charms. The book floats in the air without him noticing and I drop it right on his head.
It falls and hits his head with a thump and he yells out in suprise.
"Flipendo" Trylin yells again this time hitting me and causing me to fall.
The rest of the class watches in utter amazement at what is going on.
Behind me Anyla has taken out her wand and the teacher has noticed what is going on at this point......

"Expelliarmus!" I yell twice hitting both boys before they knew what happened. "Accio Wand!" I call twice catching both wands and coming over to the table. I saw the Slytherin boy had his wand out but put it away in the few seconds I had taken to cast the spells. "Now would someone like to tell me why you both are dueling in my classroom. It would be one thing if we sanctioned a duel but it's another to attack another classmate with no cause Mr. Andrews."
"Um...well...." Ms Aera stuttered.
"I just reacted to the situation...." Mr Young slowly muttered.
"It's my fault Professor," said Mr Alburn walking over.
"Surprising since you failed to cast a single spell Mr Alburn," I noted as Mr Andrews glared at him.
"I started the trouble..."
"No he didn't," said Anyla defending him.
"Well all I know is that Mr Young and Mr Andrews have some explaining to do to the Head Mistress and that both their houses are going to lose a good amount of points over this," I finished.

I look away from everyone and try to calm down. Now they're in trouble... And it's my fault... I think, trying to not tear up. I feel so horrid... And now we're going to lose points...
Trylin sighs and turns away. "Thanks a lot Young."
Cayden walks back to his seat without saying anything.
I want to tell Trylin how awful he's being and what a jerk he is and how he needs to just leave me alone and how he should stop trying to start things... But I know if I even try to speak I'll cry. Professor Lockheart looks really unhappy, so I decide to not make a scene of any kind.

I notice that Ms Aera was looking a bit sad, maybe going to cry so I put my hat on her head. It was too big of course but it covered her eyes from everyone.
"This isn't your fault," I head Mr Alburn whisper to her.
I knelt down as he looked at me. "You won't get in trouble Ms Aera, don't worry." I could see a bit of relief coming from Mr Alburn as he noticed I had no intention in involving Ms Area. "After class Mr Young and Andrews, you both will accompany me to the Headmitress' office and THEN you MAY get your wands back."

I try not to giggle as Professor Lockheart's hat covers my eyes. So strange that I'd go from about to cry to trying to not laugh so quickly, I think. I lift the hat a bit to look up at Kain, who's trying to calm me down.
Still, it is my fault, I think. Everything tends to be my fault somehow.
I sigh and wait to see what will happen next.

I decided to follow Professor Lockheart as I really had no other choice.
I was still mad at Trylin for causing this and yet in the back of my head I feel that I have some responsibility.
I tell the Professor I'm sorry though I know it won't do much.
I also feel bad for Anyla who looked sad and I can tell feels like this is her fault. As I walk past her I mutter, "Anyla this isn't your fault. I brought my wand out. I should've kept calm and dealt with the situation better, though it was fun dropping a book on Trylin's head."
"Thanks for trying to take the blame, but I don't want you to be in trouble," I tell Kain as I walk by.
